Governance, Accountability and the Desire for a Digital Commons
World-InfoCon Amsterdam
In the fourth and final panel of the conference the desire for a digital commons is questioned on the level of political feasibility. How can new regulatory frameworks be developed that guarantee the desired rights for participation and access? How can limits be imposed on the market and the forces of commodification? This panel deals with new forms and models of media governance that increasingly will have to be organised on a transnational scale. Where should these new forms of regulation be located? How can they guarantee cultural and informational diversity? What is the role of national governments in the formation of the new transnational information spaces? How can these spaces be organised in a democratic manner?

FUTURE NON STOP
...is a semantically connected content repository, which contains documents on 15 years of new practices in art and media.Based on an extensive archive going back to 1994 the site collects materials that serve as important reference documents in the field of new media, politics, and art and makes them accessible to a wider public. Instead of a hierarchically structured archive an experimental navigation interface opens up new ways to explore large information nodes. Documents are associated by a range of tag that allow to filter relevance according to topics and issue relations. ASCR, short for Advanced Semantic Content Repository, is the open source information architecture and "editing back end" of Future Non Stop.
Future Non Stop is a project of:
